Volunteer

The United Way of the Bradford Area has many opportunities for those wishing to give of their time to do so.  If you have interest in any of the following positions, please contact the office.

Campaign Presenter
When United Way representatives are permitted to address the employees of a respective business (employee presentations), a team of volunteers and staff with conduct a formal presentation.  This truly is the emphasis of what the United Way is all about.  Employee contributions (via payroll deduction) are exclusive to the Untied Way.  The presentation includes the use of media (video, DVD, Power Point, etc.) to convey the message of the United Way to those in attendance.  A campaign presenter will share a message of giving with the audience, a personal example of their involvement with the organization and why they choose to donate.

Staff members usually open and close the presentation - to thank you for past presentations and to explain options to donate.

The best part of the presentations is that everyone receives a consistent message and it can be customized to fit the needs of the respective groups.

Public speaking skills are a must for this repsonsibility.

Campaign Division Volunteer
The United Way annual campaign is separated into divisions relative to their industry or profession.  During the course of the campaign, the United Way needs the help of organized individuals to call upon various accounts inquiring as to the status of their pledge or setting up a presentation for their employees.

The basics of this volunteer effort include an initial contact, delivery of necessary materials, establishing date(s) and time(s) for presentation(s), being available to answer questions and following up to receive the total of the pledge(s).

The advantage of volunteering in this capacity is if your work responsibilities are such that you cannot be away from the office, you can still stay in touch with your contact organization.  Phone calls, e-mail and such go a long way to help follow-up and wrap-up the appeal.  Plus, they appreciate hearing from you!

Campaign Wrap-Up Volunteer
The Wrap-Up volunteers serve as a different voice which the United Way used to encourage the contact to complete their pledge process.  We certainly do not force anyone to donate, but sometimes the campaign division volunteer gets tired of chasing people around.  Sometimes, "No, I just can't do it this year" is a difficult and embarrassing statement to make.  A different volunteer may be easier to deliver the news to.

Special Events Volunteer
Fundraising and Friendraising go hand in hand at our United Way.  We not only sponsor events throughout the campaign to raise money, but also awareness!  Some are more profitable than others, some just simply make friends.  Regardless, we need help at both!

  • Pig Roast/Clam Bake:  Without a question, our most popular event ever!  There's nothing glam about this one - opening clams, setting up tables, cleaning up, etc...but you will have an absolute ball!  GREAT way to kick off our campaign, and the community looks forward to it each and every year!
  • Fall Soup Lunch:  2008 will be our 2nd annual!  There is nothing like a bowl of hot soup on a cold fall day.  We will be making deliveries throughout the community, as well as selling bowls at our office on Main Street.  Looking for delivery drivers and "counter" help!
  • Bradford Area School District Events:  The school district is open to doing special events, contests and fun things with the United Way.  Volunteer efforts to be announced!
